Adoption Service - Adoption Narratives - Bob
And
its very deep sort of process and its erm and I was talking about it with
some close friends and the said well look maybe you should ask you're adoptive
parents about it pause now at the time I didn't really get on 100 per cent
with my adoptive father because we're natures were just totally different
I think you know erm so it was difficult to say the least to approach it and
I know when I did raise the subject my mother wasn't too happy about it event
though she was upstairs she wasn't too happy about it and I think because
they've always got the fear that your rejecting them in some way when you're
trying to find out about your adoption side and your natural parents and of
course it think its an inevitable thing for people who are adopted and so
I got some information off them but it was quite scant it more or less just
said pause erm why I'd been adopted pause erm pause it wasn't a lot of information
I don't think and erm I sort of left it for a while for maybes another 1 or
2 years and I was in a relationship and my girlfriend at the time she was
more interested than and she sort of pushed me and she took a very keen interest
which I don't know was such a good thing at the time and she contacted erm
these organisations that apparently can you know reunite er natural parents
and offspring erm if they are on the list and all this stuff Right Erm and
also somehow I contacted the local social services pause and I got some information
from them the most I'd had actually and they actually had my mothers name
and where she'd lived erm and where I was born all the details of sort of
my size and that at birth and erm not a lot of information about my father
laughs typical man erm and that was about it and they made a point of saying
that they couldn't help me anymore which at the time I was a bit taken aback
by but that was as much as they could do for legal reasons and one thing and
another so pause er again I had this information and again I was I'd made
a little step forward so I was satisfied for quite another year or two and
erm again just sat on it and then one day I happen to be reading the local
newspaper and there was an advert in it from Neebus with a telephone number
by god which I couldn't get through to for about 2 or 3 days I don't think
there was many people at the time Right In the office at neebus laughs and
there was no answer There is now Anyhow eventually there was an answer phone
after a certain time and I left a message and maybes a week later a Steve
Bevridge called me up wanted to see me and I er gave him all the information
and then some what to my surprise I wasn't expecting things to run quite as
quickly as they did things snowballed very very very quickly baring in mind
how slowly over the years I had assembled information and then Steve phoned
up and said he knew of some guy who said was in this part of the county where
my mother lived erm and he would get in touch with him blah blah blah and
then literally about another 2 days later he said that he'd actually spoken
to my mother you know which was quite a shock and said something like erm
you know im going to arrange for you to phone he which he did and that was
the again this was what seemed to be breath taking pace erm and I remember
I phoned her up and pause at the time I think Steve says oh you don't mind
me advising you have someone with you as its quite an emotional thing erm
but there was nobody around at the time friends were away doing this that
and the other so I had no choice I had to phone her up just by myself.
